North-East branch

The North-East Branch is located in the historic Northeast area - about 15 minutes from downtown Kansas City. In addition to items in English the North-East Library features a wide variety of materials in Spanish: books, magazines, fotonovelas, CDs, and DVDs. There is also a variety of books, newspapers in other languages to support the community.

North-East serves as a community center for the area as well as a meeting place for various community organizations and neighborhood associations.

Book-STEAM

Part science project, part art class, part book club, this Monday evening activity is for kids who are interested in exploring anything and everything STEAM related, especially writing, reading, science, and drawing.

Cardio Kickboxing: Abs Edition

Punch and kick your way to good health. Fitness champion Nicki Jones will lead you through 10 to 12 rounds of punches, kicks and cardio exercise.

Healthy Living Challenge: Eating Smart, Being Active

The MU Extension Office Presents Eating Smart, Being Active a research-based nutrition class. Lessons focus on food and nutrition and give participants a chance to apply new information through interactive activities and food demonstrations. Healthy Living Challenge: Stay Strong, Stay Healthy

We will learn 8 simple exercises designed to improve daily living. These moves will build strength, improve your balance, and your health. Everyone starts at a level that’s right for them! Adults over 55 are encouraged to join. Every Monday and Wednesday!

Get your heart pumping with line dancing instruction and fun led by the Stepp-Tacular Steppers!

Kids Cafe

Stop in at the North-East Public Library for a healthy after-school snack and fun activity, craft, or game. In partnership with Harvesters, Kids Cafe will be every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday 4:00-5:00.

You must be ages 4-18 to receive a meal and the meal must be eaten in the kids cafe room.

Teen Advisory Group

Are you interested in making a difference at your library? Do you enjoy planning events and talking to other teens your age? Then this is the opportunity for you! Join our Teen Advisory Group and make the library a better, more fun place for teens like you!

This event is appropriate for ages 12-18.

Teen Game Night

Join us the first Thursday of every month to play board and videogames. We have a PS4, Xbox 260, and a WiiU to play with! This event is appropriate for ages 12-18.

Treat Yourself to Yoga

Join Joy Monzon and us every Tuesday and Thursday morning. Start your day with a 60 minute guided practice for all levels. You will leave each session with a deep sense of gratitude and connection to your mind and body.

Branch History

The North-East Branch opened in 1914 in Northeast High School with 6,000 books. In 1986 the Northeast, East, and Blue Valley branches were combined into the North-East branch. The library building at 6000 Wilson Road opened in 1989 and now contains approximately 65,000 items.
